Prof. Zhang Yuanhui, Director of the U.S. BESS Laboratory, Visits Big Herdsman to Explore New Heights in Livestock Ventilation Technology

On May 9, Prof. Zhang Yuanhui, Director of the U.S. BESS Laboratory, Chair Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and member of the State Council Overseas Expert Advisory Committee, visited Big Herdsman Machinery Co., Ltd. in Qingdao for a research and inspection visit.Vice President Dr. Li Xiusong and Fan R&D Director Mr. Wang Yinhus, along with the core technical team of Big Herdsman, warmly received the delegation. Both sides held in-depth discussions on livestock ventilation technology R&D, laboratory construction, and industry development trends.

Prof. Zhang Yuanhui is a globally recognized authority in livestock house ventilation and environmental control. He has long been engaged in ventilation system theory research and technological innovation. The BESS Laboratory he leads is one of the world’s most authoritative fan testing institutions and serves as a global benchmark for fan performance validation and standard formulation.

In recent years, Prof. Zhang has observed a significant increase in testing demand from Chinese fan manufacturers at the BESS Laboratory, reflecting the rapid rise of China’s livestock equipment industry on the global stage.As a leading fan manufacturer and large-scale livestock equipment provider in China, Big Herdsman—supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Key Laboratory and its strong technical expertise in ventilation—became a key focus of Prof. Zhang’s visit to China.

During the visit, Prof. Zhang and his delegation toured Big Herdsman’s national-level Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Key Laboratory, advanced wind tunnel laboratory, and fan R&D and production workshop, gaining in-depth understanding of the company’s technological breakthroughs and application achievements in fan performance optimization, high airflow & low energy consumption design, and intelligent environmental control.

Prof. Zhang Yuanhui entered the wind tunnel laboratory and engaged in technical discussions with Fan R&D Director Mr. Wang Yinhus on site.

He observed the fan testing process in the wind tunnel laboratory, gaining a deep understanding of equipment configuration, testing standards, and data accuracy.
